UG programmes at GSHS are student-centric and career-focused. Well designed curriculum based on CBCS model, excellent core education, wide range of co-curricular/ extracurricular activities, and good social initiatives prepare the students for careers in their chosen field by equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to excel in a diverse and rapidly changing world.
The combination of three core subjects gives the students an interdisciplinary perspective and an opportunity to acquire sound knowledge in each. This enables them to make smart decisions about their career path and/or higher education. Foundation Courses encourage students to develop an informed world view, and foster understanding of the cultural, historical, ethical, aesthetic, and linguistic forces that shape our lives. Ability Enhancement Courses are designed to help students improve their critical thinking ability, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, as well as written and spoken communication in English for academic and professional purposes. Recognizing the need for multilingual proficiency in the world today, foreign/Indian language courses are offered as essential requirements. Students can personalize their learning experience and can opt for either a broad approach or a concentrated study by choosing from a pool of Discipline Specific Electives and Generic Electives.

The English courses are designed to enhance the students’ communication skills as well as their critical and creative thinking abilities. Courses are offered in English language, literature, linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT). Students are guided to read, analyze, understand and interpret texts from British, American, Indian and World literatures across the ages in a variety of genres. They gain insights into the evolution of the English language and its characteristics through courses in language and linguistics. Students are also exposed to different cultural perspectives and the larger questions about representation in different historical and social contexts. They have ample opportunity to immerse themselves in the art and craft of writing besides honing their speaking skills.
Media Studies is a diverse field and core courses provide strong foundational knowledge in the areas of print and TV journalism, online media, and other mass communication fields like advertising and public relations. Elective courses offer opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge in specialized areas such as development communication, global politics and media, and integrated marketing communication. The program gives ample scope for industry exposure through internship/ project. Besides developing excellent skills and professional competence to find good placements and succeed in careers, students also gain sound knowledge for higher education in their chosen field.
The program focuses on the construction, delivery and interpretation of messages and helps students become effective communicators across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. Besides the core courses and the compulsory requirements, the curriculum includes elective courses in specialized areas such as documentary film making, fashion communication, and photography. Students would be equipped with professional writing skills, polished speaking skills, excellent interpersonal skills, creative and critical thinking abilities, as well as the ability to multi-task, thus making them industry ready. The program is designed to be internationally competitive and locally relevant.
Students would gain insights into the major concepts, theories, and trends in psychology. The study of psychology improves their understanding of the self and of others, as well as the physical and psychological substrates underlying human behavior and mental processes. They would also develop skills in study/research, analysis and presentation of findings. The core courses give a sound knowledge of the foundations of psychology and include areas such as social psychology, developmental psychology, psychological measurement of individual differences, Indian psychology, mental health in general care, and psychology of peace and conflict resolution. Students are also introduced to specialized areas such as abnormal psychology and psychology of happiness. Experiential learning opportunities are designed to assist students in their lives and future careers.
Political Science courses offer insights into theoretical concepts as well as practical aspects of politics and political behaviour. It involves description, study and analysis of broad areas such as political systems, public administration, and international relations. Students are also introduced to specialized areas such as political economy, comparative politics and Indian political process. The courses offer scope for practical application of knowledge and the transferable skills thus acquired by students could be of great help in pursuing their chosen career paths.
Core courses in Mathematics are common with BSc and prepare students for higher education in Mathematics besides being oriented towards applications of Mathematics in Social Sciences with focus on applied analysis and computational methods. Students are trained to think logically, present mathematical arguments with clarity and accuracy, and are equipped with skills of advanced numeracy. By the end of the program students would be industry ready for various job roles that demand knowledge of Mathematics combined with computation and quantitative aspects of Economics.
The significance of Economics as a discipline of study at the UG level has increased tremendously in recent times because of its high utility and huge demand. It offers a wide array of opportunities for higher education, research, consultancy and jobs in the public and private sectors. The courses deal with the qualitative and quantitative aspects of economics, as well as theory and practical applications besides giving a historical perspective. The courses include several important areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, developmental economics, and environmental economics. Students are also trained to apply their mathematical knowledge, computational and statistical skills to specialized areas such as econometric and financial economics.
Core courses in Statistics are common with B.Sc., and prepare students to pursue the subject at the Masters level if they are so inclined. In addition to the comprehensive core courses, specialized courses are designed with emphasis on Statistics as a research tool in order to equip students with the applied techniques used in the field of Economics. Besides being eligible for the Indian Statistical Services and Indian Economic Services graduates would also have several job opportunities in the government, non-government and corporate sectors because well formulated organized data is the need of the hour in almost every major organization.
